Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a quick update on the final shipping stages! I've been chipping away at shipping books and I'm making great progress. I'm leaving town for the Thanksgiving holiday but I'm going waaay out of town! In fact, I'm heading to Lucca, Italy, for an appearance at an old-school Magic: The Gathering event- The Eternal Weekend! For those who don't know, I was one of the original artists for the game waaay back in the beginning! I illustrated 18 cards around the same time I was creating my first screen-printed rock posters in 1994-95. While the poster world became my main focus, I still get requests to sign those old cards and for commissions to recreate the designs. This will be a fun getaway and it will provide some nice holiday earnings!

I wanted to be transparent about this, as I won't be very available while I'm away. 

After I return at the beginning of December, I'll be recruiting friends to help with the final push to pack and ship the last stretch of orders. We're going to hit it hard to try and get everything delivered before Christmas!

We are so close to getting this massive project wrapped up (pun intended!). Thank you again to everyone who contributed; I literally couldn't have done it without you.

I just unearthed some of my 2014 Mark Lanegan Band Phantom Radio poster variants that were stored in my poster vault. Back then I felt like I'd over saturated the market with the posters that I was creating for Mark so I held this entire variant edition back and kept them stored in my archives. An Important Update on Fulfillment & A Note on Amazon

Hey everyone,

I'm writing today with a mix of gratitude and a need for transparency. First, thank you for your continued patience. I was out of town for a week in New York for a group exhibition at Spoke Art Gallery for their 15th year anniversary show but am now back home and back to work. The fulfillment process continues daily—my studio is a whirlwind of cardboard, styrofoam, tape, and books, and I'm steadily working through the queue every single day. I apologize to those that haven't received the book yet. It's not personal, I'm fulfilling them steadily and the majority of copies have now shipped since I'm well over halfway through. You will receive your copy as well and soon. 

I also want to address a question that has come up from a few of you, and I completely understand the concern: Why is the book available on Amazon when some backers are still waiting for their copies?

This is a fair and understandable question. I understand the frustration with the optics on this. It seems like I need to address this and clarify the situation. Here’s the honest answer.

To make this book everything I dreamed it could be, I was approached by and accepted a partnership with a publisher/distributor (Gingko Press) after the Kickstarter campaign successfully reached it's goal and beyond. This partnership was crucial for two reasons:

It Significantly Increased the Book's Quality: The funds from this deal were directly invested back into the production. This allowed me to use higher-quality paper, a more durable cover, and better printing techniques than my original Kickstarter budget would have allowed. It also allowed me to add fancy touches like the spot varnishes on the front and back covers of the book, dust jacket and all versions of the slipcases. This is spendy stuff but I was able to add it in order to make this the best possible product from the deal. The book you will receive is a superior physical object because of this decision. You will see it when you hold it in your hands. I've been hearing from people that have gotten their books that it's the highest quality art book that they've ever gotten and it's the new crown jewel of their collection. That's not by mistake, it's by design to give you all something you will cherish as my gratitude for your support. YOU guys made the success of this all happen and it's a cherry on top from me to you. I could have pocketed that extra money but I did not and would not. This book is my love letter to you all believing in me, first and foremost. The books that Gingko Press is selling on their Amazon sales page don't include a slipcase, only you are getting that. That's why their price is lower. None of them are signed either. Those that ordered the Limited Edition or Deluxe edition are getting signed and numbered copies as well. 

It Got the Book into Bookstores: This partnership is how a DIY project from a "one-man operation" can get onto shelves in actual bookstores, reaching a wider audience and ensuring the book's long-term survival. The campaign on KS was initially conceived as I wasn't having ANY success getting book companies to back my vision. Zero. Some offered smaller, shorter books with minimal control over my vision. I said "no thanks" as I had something very specific in mind. A full retrospective book of my work and a true art TOME.  With that in mind I took the idea directly to my supporters (you guys) and with your great help was able to not only bring my vision to life BUT to actually get offered a deal that wouldn't have otherwise been possible. YOU did this!! It's a guerilla campaign that went around the status quo and made it happen in spite of the roadblocks and obstacles of an industry that I was having no luck breaking into. I could not be more humbled and honored. My success comes directly from your support and I'll always be grateful. When you get your copy and hold it in your hands, each and every one of you can confidently say "I made this happen". WE all did this together. 

How does this affect your copy? The stock on Amazon is from the separate retail channel managed by the distributor. My personal fulfillment of your Kickstarter rewards is a completely separate, parallel process that I am handling myself. I am packing and shipping each one personally from my studio. 

I made a conscious choice from the very beginning to put every possible resource into the quality of the book itself, even if that meant the fulfillment process would be slower and more labor-intensive on my end. I chose to invest in the artifact you hold in your hands over the convenience of a faster shipping service.

Your copy is not late because of Amazon; your copy is a higher-quality object because of the deal with the publisher that has a sales page on Amazon. 

I know this doesn't make the wait easier, but I hope it provides crucial context. Your support as a backer is what built the foundation for everything that followed. You are the reason this book exists at all. 

What's Next?
I am still shipping daily. You will receive your tracking number from Stamps Dot Com as soon as your label is printed. Please keep an eye on your spam folders.

When your book arrives, I truly believe you will see and feel the difference. This is my legacy piece, and I am so proud of what we created together. Your belief in this project from the beginning means everything, and I'm very grateful for your understanding.

New Art Print. 

For anyone interested, I have a art new print up today. The Gallery Edition was available at the showing at Spoke Art Gallery that I appeared at in New York but my Glow in the Dark Artist Edition is available only on my website. This isn't a sales pitch. This is me doing what I can to survive in this god-awful economy and provide for my kids and I. It's literally how I live. I appreciate all of your support more that you will ever know. Hello everyone,

It’s been a while since my last update, so I wanted to reach out and give you the latest from my studio. The main news is this: the wheels are still churning!! I am now well over halfway through processing, packing, and shipping the hundreds of orders from our successful Kickstarter campaign! Look at all that newly empty space in my storage unti!

This has been a monumental task, to say the least. As a one-man operation—playing the roles of artist, CEO, and janitor—I’m handling each package personally. I take immense care with every one, packing them in heavy-duty cardboard, copious tape, and protective bubble wrap to ensure your book arrives safely, no matter the distance it has to travel. My goal is to pack each book as if it were my own prized copy. 

I know fulfillment companies exist to make this easier, but I made a conscious choice. The vast majority of the campaign's earnings went directly into creating a high-end product I am truly proud of—a book I hope you’ll consider a crown jewel of your collection. I chose to invest in quality over convenience, even if it means my hands are full of tape and cardboard for a while longer!

All of this is happening while I juggle freelance work to keep the lights on and navigate the wonderful perils of being a single parent to a teenager half the time(& one out of the home). Your patience and support throughout this process have been a tremendous motivator.

Back in the winter of 1989 in art school, I had a class on the art of typography. This was when using a computer for design was this crazy new thing. I mean, I saved the file on one of those big, floppy 5½-inch discs—the kind that actually was floppy. Cutting edge technology!... back then at least.

The assignment was just to play around with setting type on this, at the time, brand new Macintosh Apple computer. There was a show coming up that had tickets to and was stoked about: Nirvana, Tad, The Gits, and Crunchbird at the Hub Ballroom. January 1990. The cover charge was four bucks. Seriously, four dollars for four bands. Wild, right?

So I sketched this idea out in ink in my sketchbook of the time—really raw and loose. Then I cleaned it up in the computer, printed a few out, and posted them up around town. I was pretty proud of myself. It wasn't even the official flyer for the gig, but over the years, it somehow became the image everyone remembers from that night. I even got asked for it's usage in the HBO documentary- Kurt Cobain:The Montage of Heck.

I was recently looking through that old sketchbook and I realized... man, the original sketch is soooo much cooler. It’s got that raw, DIY energy that totally matches the flyers Kurt was making himself back then. It feels like the Bleach album sounds, you know?

It hit me that I’ve never properly released this thing. So I thought, why not do it right? I’m now publishing a signed and numbered set of all three versions: the cleaned-up computer one, the original sketch I drew by hand, and the negative black-and-white version I made back then to match the Bleach album cover vibe.

They’re all finally screen printed for the first time ever on nice, thick paper. I’m also printing a handful of various color variants. A few lucky people who order a set will randomly be selected to get a bonus fourth poster thrown in—no tricks, just luck of the draw. Best of luck to the lucky few that score one!

As you may remember this poster was previously only offered as an exclusive to you as a Kickstarter backer of my book; Visual Feast. For those that didn't order one and might want to add this to your collection, I'm now offering it for the first time on my website to everyone. There are only a handful of copies left. Grab one while they last!

As some of you may know my very first gig poster ever was for a relatively unknown band from the Northwest at the time called Nirvana on the end of their tour for their 1st album, Bleach. The simple black and white flyer that I created for an art class was mostly typography with a pair of eyes that I illustrated. That original flyer only went up on a handful of telephone poles as I felt like putting up myself in a few locations just to see how they looked. I went to the show that it was created for and wasn’t the only visual creative in attendance. World famous Seattle photographer, Charles Peterson was there capturing the show on old school silver gelatin film. Among the photos that he captured was a shot of a concertgoer taking a leap high off of large speaker stacks onto the crowd below the stage. That photo would later become used by TAD on the back cover of the album Salt Lick and went on to become one of the most iconic photos from that era.  

As I began putting together my retrospective book an idea kept flashing in my mind but I had no idea if it was possible. In 2020 I finally worked up the nerve and reached out to Charles Peterson and ran my concept past. I pitched the idea of merging my flyer with his famous photograph to make a limited edition screen printed poster as a collaborative effort. To my great surprise he said yes! I then undertook to the task of trying my best to merge the two visuals together like an old school DIY screen printed poster that could look like it was from the era. I'm very pleased with the result and very thankful Charles indulged my desire to bring this new version of two vintage images into something new! 

Each copy of this 3 color screen print is signed by Charles Peterson and I. To give homage to his silver gelatin photographs a silver metallic ink was added to the blue ink to give the poster a slight glisten.

Hey amazing backers!

Just wanted to give you a quick update—shipping is in full swing, and a heap of books have already made their way out the door and into the homes of backers! If you haven’t received your tracking notification yet, don’t worry—your book is coming soon. This is a one-person operation (yours truly!), so while it’s taking a bit of time, every single order is being packed with love, bubble wrap, and a whole lot of care. I'm processing hundreds of orders but each one is getting the same level of great regard.

Here’s a peek behind the scenes: organizing orders, crafting boxes, hand-packing each book, and making daily trips to the post office with my trusty truckload of goodies. It’s a labor of love, and seeing your excited posts and messages as books arrive has been the best motivation. Thank you for the kindness and patience—it means the world!

In other news...

Earlier this year, I was optimistic that all of these books would be out in the wild by now. So, I had booked a couple of events where I could meet up with some of you in person, sign some books, talk about the project, and share my appreciation for all of your support. Two of those signings are coming up this week. If you’re in the Seattle area, I’d love to see you and shake your hand for helping me bring Visual Feast to life!

While I really would have preferred to have these events after I wrapped up shipping all of your pledges, I don’t want to let the good folks at Easy St Records and Fantagraphics Bookstore down when they’ve been gracious enough to host these events. I greatly appreciate your understanding. And don’t worry, I’ll be back on Monday and kicking out books as fast as my nimble hands can keep up!

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!

Hey everyone,

WE DID IT! Today, with the help of my homie Mike Braack (retired UPS master of 35 years & my 3D poster guy), we unloaded all 2,000 copies of VISUAL FEAST from the 20-foot shipping container that finally arrived from China! The books are officially on the ground in Portland! WHOOHOOOO!!!

Mike came out of retirement for a few hours to flex his forklift skills (I put his ass back to work… briefly!), while I handled the pallet jack like a rookie trying to keep up. Together, we stacked ‘em up in storage like pros. This moment? It’s the kind of grind that reminds you why they call it art-work**.

It’s wild to think this journey started six years ago (fall 2019!) when I first began assembling this beast of a book. Then, three years ago, you all joined the ride through the Kickstarter campaign, helping push this project further than I ever imagined. After countless hours of polishing, tweaking, and perfecting, I can honestly say: I’m so damn proud of what we’ve made. And I cannot wait for you to hold it in your hands.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Fulfillment mode: ACTIVATED. Now that the books are here, we’re rolling into the final phase—processing and shipping your orders! This includes signing & numbering the numbered editions and packing all of the orders up with great care for their final journeys to you!

Expect more updates (and maybe a few behind-the-scenes packing chaos pics) as I get these out the door.
